Transitioning Into Fall: The Yellow Dress Posted on September 17, 2020January 3, 2021 by Shannan Start with the Yellow Dress Who decides what colors to wear and when? Who says you can’t transition a yellow spring/summer dress into a fall/winter piece? I say, if you buy it, you decide when to wear it. Point. Blank. Period. Yes, I said it! Even the infamous white you may want to wear after Labor Day. Wear it! When I saw this dress, the color drew me in. I don’t normally wear yellow, but I knew I wanted this to go home with me that day. This type of neckline is one of my favorites to wear. So, this purchase was a no brainer! And it has pockets! Come on y’all! They are neutral so they will work with a ton of outfits. And do you see how low the heel is? It is perfect for my “no heel wearing” life! Cute and comfy! Sign me up! Add a Cardigan Can you tell the photographer had me spinning? Literally! As you can see, I added a cardigan! Boom! Instant long sleeves! This is a good go-to and probably the most used way to transition a summer piece. The best time to buy these is when stores are replacing their winter items with spring items. This can be challenging as I tend to want to buy clothing for the upcoming season. As much as I love shopping the clearance sections, I still prefer to buy items I can wear now.The neutral color of the cardigan tones down the brightness of the dress. Because it is on the shorter side, the tiered look of the dress is still visible. A longer cardigan could also do the trick and would add a nice contrast and dimension overall. Add the Final Touch I chose different earrings for each look. Let me explain. Without the cardigan, I wanted to keep the dress as the focal piece. Wearing a long necklace would distract from the pretty neckline that I wanted to show off. So I opted for just earrings. When I added the cardigan, I opted for a longer necklace which now acts as a focal point and pulls the eye in.
