What Had Happened Was
On Wednesday night, September 30, 2020, I was riding home from Bible study. I was browsing Instagram and got a pop-up that mentioned that there was suspicious activity on my account. So, I entered my credentials only to be met with another pop-up that thanked me for providing my info. It said that they’ll review it and if they confirm my info, I’d be able to access the account in approximately 24 hours. Then, it prompted me to log out. Well, that was Wednesday night around 7:30. (For reference, as I type this, it is Monday, October 5th at 12:42 a.m.)
Research Time!
So…ummarra….I searched the internet to see if anyone else had encountered this issue. The answer was a resounding YES! A few people had gotten their accounts back so there was hope! Days went by and I continued to research and enter my credentials only to be met with the same pop-up. Then, I learned the probable cause for all of this. I was using a Followers app, which Instagram apparently doesn’t like. Well, I didn’t know that! If you’re unaware, this is an app that tracks who follows and unfollows you on your account. In all fairness, my sister told me she didn’t understand why I needed that app when I first downloaded it. But me, being a mixture of nosey and petty, used the app on the regular. Like every day. Well….look where I am now! I’m 99.9% sure that’s what got my account deactivated, especially after speaking to my godsister who’s been blogging for several years. Lesson Learned!
What’s Next for Me?

While all signs point to my account being deactivated and not banned, I still don’t have access to it. I’ve decided to start from scratch under a new, yet similar, IG name. I actually don’t mind because I can use what I’ve learned over the last few months to create a page with my desired aesthetic. Here’s to hoping I can recover the 863 followers I had previously!
What Have I Learned?
Don’t put all your eggs into someone else’s basket! Instagram is a business. A business that I don’t own. They can make whatever decisions they want for their business. And if I do something they don’t like, even if I’m not aware of it, they have the say what to do with my account. Point. Blank. Period. And I ain’t mad either.
But you know what I do own? This blog! It is mine! I’m not worried about anyone shutting me down! I realize in hindsight that I should’ve taken advice given to me by my godsister. Focus on what you own. Put your attention and effort there.
Will I still post on Instagram? ABSOLUTELY! The platform is amazing for building an audience. But, please know that I will be diversifying my attention with a good amount going to this blog. So, get ready to read a lot more from me!
I hope you enjoyed reading this post! Until next time Comfies! Enjoy your day!
