When I told my cousin that I wear a size 22, she was surprised. She even looked at my jeans as I stretched them and told me I could go down a size or two! Lol! And to be honest, I look at my pictures and am often surprised that I don’t look bigger. I have even asked my husband and sister if my pictures really show me. The real me. I shouldn’t be surprised when they say yes, but still. But now that I look at my pictures every day (thanks Instagram), I realize that what I see is based on choosing the size I wear and not the size I wish I did…even if that means wearing a bigger size.
Don’t Be Afraid to Size Up!
So you’re shopping and you see that perfect pair of pants. You try them on and bam! The waist is too tight! But wait, I can make this work right? Right!? You see, no matter your size, if the waistline on your pants doesn’t lay flat, it will give you some unexpected fluff in your waist area. Okay. But if I don’t want that, what do I do?
Size up! Find some pants that lay flat on your waist. But, what if they are too big? You can either leave them or become friends with a tailor! When you’re shopping, you always want to fit your clothes to the widest area and then tailor from there, if necessary. That goes for any type of clothing, not just pants.
Now, if you decide not to size up or the next size is not available, then you can just wear a big flowy top over the pants and voila!
Rip That Tag Out!
Listen, if you really don’t want to buy a larger size, but you know it’s necessary, buy it and then rip out that tag! No one has to ever know! I don’t know why anyone would be looking at your clothing tags, but just get rid of them anyway. Or maybe you just don’t want to look at it. Either way. Get. Rid. Of. The. Clothing. Tag.
I know that many of us really don’t like having to size up. But, just remember. The number or letters in your clothing does not define you. At all. You define you.
